COVID-Safe Filming: Concept Development

The challenge was to develop a visual direction for an explainer animation that communicated COVID-safe filming practices in a clear, engaging and reassuring way.

Created in response to government guidance during the pandemic, this concept explored how a video production agency could communicate the measures it was taking to minimise the risk of coronavirus transmission while continuing to deliver productions safely. The objective was to present important health information in a way that felt approachable, optimistic and easy to follow.

With an open creative brief, I developed a distinctive illustrative style that combined vibrant colour palettes with expressive paintbrush textures to create a warm, human aesthetic. The simplified character designs were created to work across a variety of stylised filming environments, allowing the visual language to scale naturally throughout the animation while keeping the messaging clear and accessible.

The resulting styleframes established a cohesive visual identity that balanced informative communication with engaging illustration, demonstrating how thoughtful art direction can make complex public messaging feel approachable without losing clarity.
