Merck: Character-Led Explainer
The challenge was to create an engaging character-led explainer that communicated complex information while remaining true to Merck's bold global brand identity.
Created for Merck, a leading science and technology company operating across healthcare, life science and performance materials, this animated explainer needed to simplify technical messaging into an approachable and engaging visual narrative. With a tight production schedule, the project required an efficient creative process without compromising on quality or consistency.
Working across styleframe development, character design, art direction and final animation, I created a visual language that embraced Merck's distinctive brand guidelines by combining bold colour palettes, graphic patterns and custom typography with expressive character animation. To add depth and variation throughout the film, I also incorporated bespoke 3D elements created in Cinema 4D, blending them seamlessly with the 2D motion graphics.
Every scene was designed to make complex information feel accessible, using character performance, pacing and motion to guide the viewer through the narrative while maintaining a vibrant and engaging visual style.
The result was a polished explainer animation that balanced brand consistency with playful storytelling, demonstrating how character animation and motion design can communicate sophisticated ideas in a clear, memorable and visually engaging way.
